Duke Kahanamoku

Duke Kahanamoku became a legendary and cultural icon through his achevements in surfing and swimming. Credited as "The Father of Modern Surfing," Duke popularized surfing at home and abroad, and helped preserve a part of Hawai'i's history. He was also honored as an inductee into the Surfing Hall of Fame. Duke's surfing was paralleled by his achievements as an Olympian.
A U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame inductee and winner of five Olympic medals, he shattered world records in swimming and in doing so, placed Hawai'i's most famous native-born citizens, Due was among many things, City and County of Honolulu Sheriff, Hollywood actor, and Ambassador of Aloha.
